There's only so much a rose can take... frost, rain, snow more frost. Well this one will never show its beauty as it was suppose to do.

A slide show video of a series of stills Patti shot yesterday of the sea foam in the ocean waves at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia Beach. The ocean was really churning and there was a lot of sea foam accumulating all along the fog shrouded beach. About 18 seconds long.

Hard to believe that Christmas is over for another year. Now I'm trying to decide when to take the tree down. Do I leave it up for New Year's Day? Or do I get everything put away before that so I can start 2010 without worrying about remnants of 2009? I do like the lights, but I think I'm leaning towards the latter.

DailyPhotos > popular today > December 26, 2009 - "Fort Jefferson Lighthouse"

This current metal light tower was installed atop Bastion C of Fort Jefferson in 1876. The partial view in the background of the parade grounds helps give some scale to the magnitude of the fort.

"The lighthouse, also known as the Garden Key Lighthouse, is featured on a new USA $0.44 stamp this year.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"On January 4, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who visited the area by ship, designated the area as Fort Jefferson National Monument. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 10, 1970. On October 26, 1992 the Dry Tortugas, including Fort Jefferson, was established as a National Park. The islands still do not exhibit any standing fresh water or even seasonal streams, hence the "dry" name. Owing to the potential difficulties of survival in such conditions, one of these islands was used as the location for filming a military survival film used to train aircraft personnel. The shipwrecks located in the waters surrounding Fort Jefferson were extensively mapped and researched in the early 1990s through several projects spearheaded by the NPS Submerged Resources Center. The mapping and survey work conducted culminated in the SRC's publication of Dry Tortugas National Park Site Assesment which outlines many of the sites which can be observed within the park's boundaries."

Day 299, Sunday, December 27

We finally had a sunny morning here in South Florida.

I went out at sunrise. There were the usual, numerous Herons, Coots and Moorhens, but I passed. I was trying to catch a Great Egret or Blue Heron with its reflection in dark, still water. I got a couple that were fair.... I might use one tomorrow.

A little later, I was lucky enough to have this little fellow flirt around in front of me. They are so fast. The top of his head looks black because it is in a shadow. I believe he is a Blue-headed Vireo and I had never seen one before... They only visit Florida in the Winter.
