It was a very nasty dreary day today...so I had to go in and dig up an oldie!

The rewards of getting up very early.

This is Marco laying in the little be they have had since kittens. He and his sister both fit in this bed when they were little. Now ne takes up the whole thing and just crams his body in there :)
Messing around with a new flash as one of my SB800's had the nerve to finally die before I had to do 3 shoots. Timing really stunk on this one. Forced me to replace the flash, so I went with the new Sb900. I loved the look on his face here in this shot

(Dec. 9, 2009) I went to shoot one heron and got a second one for free: Great Blue Heron and Black Capped Night-Heron at Rancho Jurupa Park.

On this day six years ago, Amy drew her last breath at the young age of 33. She was David’s first wife. Some of you are my friends on Facebook and may have seen my reaction to the government’s new guidelines on breast cancer prevention. This is why my reaction was so strong. Amy was diagnosed at the age of 27. I never met her. But I know her very well through her three awesome children who I am raising. Amy was an energetic full time homeschooling mom. She was completely deaf but could read lips and had learned to speak with her voice when she was a little girl. She fought a lot of hard odds in her life. She even delayed part of her cancer treatment when she found out she was pregnant with Celine. As a mother, she placed her unborn child’s life before her own….and I’m so glad she did. Celine is my “living relic” of Amy. She has Amy’s big brown eyes, beautiful toothy smile and especially her spunky spirit. Amy, I know you are praying for us. Love doesn’t end when we go home to heaven. It just gets stronger. Tonight we will celebrate your birthday into heaven just as we do every year. Six years and one day ago, you could not hear your children’s voices. But tonight, I hope their voices penetrate the heavens and fill your heart with song and joy.

Day 281, Wednesday, December 9

I haven't identified this bird yet, but here's the story......

I was shooting a Great White Egret that had caught a GIANT rat. I don't think you want to see the photos. He was having trouble swallowing it and kept coughing it back up. Yuck....!!! Then this little guy, about 4 inches long and at least 10 yards away, landed on a reed between the Egret and myself. Even though he was a long distance away and wouldn't stay still for very long, I was able to get two quick shots before he was gone..... I never thought the photos would be acceptable.

When I opened the photos, I was surprised how reasonably good they were... for the distance I had to shoot. When I crop these kind of captures, resolution is lost.
Then it dawned on me..... Was this the result of my new experiment with shooting RAW????,,,, Did I gain that much???
If so, it is certainly another reason to shot RAW.
