DailyPhotos > popular today > We"ll miss you.... - Nov 22 2009

Tomorrow my dear Caroline returns to work after staying home for a few years... It wasn't planned this way, but she didn't hesitate at all... since I'm 'out of order' for the moment.
So this old shot from one of our walks with the dogs is a little tribute and encouragement for her... we will miss you my love!
DailyPhotos > popular today > While trying to capture some ants and aphids in my garden, I noticed this little spider (about a half inch across) with a large fly. The spider was already sucking the insides out of the fly, which was already dead or paralyzed. I managed to bring this pair into the house, where I experimented with a number of different lighting arrangements...trying to get the details of the spider, while maintaining a good dof. It was very difficult and I never succeeded in getting the kind of sharpness and clarity that I wanted. However, I think the subject is sufficiently interesting to use one of these images for my daily. The other images from this effort are in my macro gallery (under the "other" category). I think for this shot, you should probably view it in the original size. The whole time I was shooting this the spider was moving around on the white paper. Thanks for your kind comments on my iris pic today. There were a lot of wonderful images posted today. By the way, has anyone heard from Dave Dedman? I haven't seen anything of his in a while and I know he had pneumonia. I sure hope he's ok. If some of you are communicating with him, give him my best wishes.

DailyPhotos > popular today > Well, I've learned something important this week end and I'll pass it on to you, in case you want to get into doing "shows"----don't confuse "Art Shows" with "Craft Fairs". This Holiday craft fair, as large it is, is not the venue for me. I did sell things and I've paid for my 2-day booth already but, I had higher hopes. But when the customers can buy "things" very cheaply for gifts from someone else, they will. My booth was crowded and I spent most of the day talking to a lot of very nice people, both young and old. I even made some new friends! And for that I am thankful. I went through most of my business cards (~300!) so I'm sure I'll get some calls from some of those folks when their need arises. I kept hearing all day about what a great eye I have and to keep it up so, off I go again today.....
When I got out of there yesterday, I was at the top of hill, overlooking the Bourne Bridge with a gorgeous sunset unfolding. I stopped at the nearest store to ask a local where the best spot to take in the sunset would be. He directed me to Monument Beach. So this is where I spent the next hour and a half, crashed in the sand, me and my camera....
Have a great day!
DailyPhotos > popular today > This Japanese Maple leaf had come to rest on the rose branch, morning dew and all. I caught this on my way out the door for the Day 2 of the "Craft Fair". I almost didn't take the time to fumble around to get my camera out but, I'm glad I did. The only other shots I took were booth shots. Thanks for all your comments the last few days. You guys are great! I'll be playing some catch up today.

We were fortunate to get access to the Galveston Railroad Museum as it is operating with limited access to the public due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Ike. The station had been under about nine feet of water. The museum is housed in the former Santa Fe Railroad station, at the head of The Strand.

Yesterday's photo is of the old control panel for railroad track switching and semaphore control. It is located on the wall of the former station. I believe additional rust was caused by being under saltwater during Hurricane Ike.

I am planning on featuring several photos from the museum this week.
