She would not take her fingers out of her mouth, would not face the key light and would not look up. But she made one mistake, she glanced up at something in the studio and I was ready. 3 light setup. She is facing the fill light.

April 13, 2009 (Day 363) The word "photography" comes from the Greek φώς (phos) "light" + γραφίς (graphis) "stylus", "paintbrush" or γραφή (graphê) "representation by means of lines" or "drawing", together meaning "drawing with light." I never really tried drawing light in front of my camera... until tonight. I did another image overlay w/ this shot on my Nikon D90 with another image of my hubby in Galveston after Hurricane Ike- see it under Alternative gallery. Countdown to day 365... Today is 363!!!! Tiny info: * I used big flash light to 'draw' the light. * It's messy but oh well... it's my first time.

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is just so beautiful there is just no way I know of to take a bad shot of it. From Wikipedia: The Outer Banks are a group of islands on the North Carolina coast that separate the Atlantic Ocean from the coastal sounds and inlets. Atlantic currents in this area made for excellent travel for ships, except in the area of Diamond Shoals, just offshore at Cape Hatteras. Nearby, the warm Gulf Stream ocean current collides with the colder Labrador Current, creating ideal conditions for powerful ocean storms and sea swells. The large number of ships that ran aground because of these shifting sandbars, including the Civil War ironclad warship USS Monitor, gave this area the nickname “Graveyard of the Atlantic.” It also led Congress to authorize the construction of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse which is recognized by the National Park Service as the tallest lighthouse in America.
