2006 (Nov 12) Granite Mountain #2 in the Granite Mountains : We parked 0.3 mi from Packard Well. Once we got to the right wash, we gained elevation quickly. The color changes on the way up were pretty cool! Astrohound placed a terracache near the summit, then we headed back. Near camp, we hiked up a little knob and I logged in a 4th terracache for the weekend. Cool hikes! (week 43, day 2)

2008 (Mar 22) Smith Mtn, Pk 5869 and TomG's birthday : Birthdays are a great reason to get together! We've all been busy but got our group back together for Tom Gossett's birthday! We celebrated by climbing Smith Mtn and Pk 5869, and camped in Gold Valley. Birthday celebration included cake, presents, sparklers and a lot of fun and silliness. Happy Birthday TomG! (wk 114, day 2)

2008 (Apr 18) Part 1: U2's Joshua Tree - Have u found what ur looking 4? : I saw Steve Hall's report on U2s Fallen Joshua Tree from early March. Then I saw Quandary's photos from early April. I had “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for” going thru my head. So when I left after work, I had U2 playing on my iPod. I found a place to pull over and sleep. In the morning I drove to the site, and as I pulled over “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for” played. I started walking, and 2 minutes later two F-18s flew over me (flying low, really loud). Pretty cool! I stayed by "the fallen tree" for an hour, taking photos, looking thru the U2ube (register), watching lizards come up to the tree, just soaking it all in. What a cool spot! (wk 118, day 1 of 3)
ADDING MORE PIX May 4, 2008 - took SnowDude to the fallen Joshua Tree after snowboarding. A lot of people have visited in two weeks, and there's a lot more rock are than last time. (wk 120, day 3)

2008 (May 3) Trafton Mtn, Antelope Peak and Owens River sunset : Our plan was to hike 2-3 peaks in the Glass Mountain Range. After 30 min of driving dirt roads, we came across a 50' snowdrift that was too much to shovel. So we ended up driving to Benton and bagged Trafton Mountain (7,825'). After, we drove the dirt roads in the area and ended up on Antelope Mountain, which I hiked from Adobe Valley last year. On the way home we stopped at the Owens River to catch the sunset. 2008 (Apr 27) Flowers along Hwy 62 : I heard DaveG leave at 3:30am and Astrohound at 4:45am. My body was feeling pretty tired so I slept til 7:30am. It was pretty windy during the night and all day Sunday. Where was that breeze yesterday! After eating and drinking lots of liquids, I took my time driving home. (wk 119)

2008 (Apr 26) Spectre Point, JTNP : 3 of us dayclimbed Spectre Point even though temps were high. It was a long day, with some fun class 3, a wrong turn that took us down an interesting chute, and a great workout! My upper body especially felt worked for a few days after. (wk 119)

2008 (Apr 12) Porter-Sentinel-Porter Pks : Tomcat, TomG and I drove up Pleasant Canyon Friday night and camped at the Porter Mine Saddle. After 4 hrs sleep (first time in altitude and I was dizzy most of the day), we headed up the Porter Mine Road and up to Porter Peak. The ridge to Sentinel was longer than it looked. The weather was cooler than expected. Views were great, but it was a long day. Since we were hiking in another area Sunday, I drove to the trailhead in the dark, another 2 hrs. Long but fun day!
