Chatsworth was first owned by Bess of Hardwick and Sir William Cavendish in the 16th century, and was rebuilt in its present form around 1700 by the first Duke of Devonshire. When you enter Chatsworth, you pass through the North entrance room and corridor into the magnificent Painted Hall.
