Happy New Year!
2011-01-01 OK, so it isn't Sydney or Times Square, but it has the advantage that you are at home. This is the view in one direction along our sleepy little street last night near midnight - all of this is privately set off, and judging by the quantity and quality, the economic crisis seems to be over (much more than the last two years). I hope your start in the new year is a happy one!

And thank you all for the kind comments on my shots during 2010!
Soggy Bird
2010-11-02 This poor bird was thoroughly drenched and landed on the dock at Kirkintilloch, Scotland to shake itself dry. [At least I only had to stand in the rain when I was driving the boat]
The result after shaking and such: http://www.jerrybarton.eu/Landscapes/Canals/8068199_FK3HC#1074289916_orgGo

Many thanks for the comments on my shot of the Japanese Maple leaves. Yes they really were that red, especially with the afternoon sun hitting them.
Out of Season
2010-08-25: The tribunes for watching rowing competitions.

Such fine pictures and people in this community. Many thanks for the comments on my rowing pictures. Much appreciated indeed.
Misty Mountains
2011-01-18 Yesterday I drove out to the alps near Vienna, since it was dreary and foggy in the town and clear and dry above the fog. This is a view of the Alpine foothills showing the thick fog that reached up to about 800m. More tomorrow.

Thanks for the comments on the ice skating rink. It will indeed be a colourful and busy place by the end of the week.
Railjet
2011-02-02 A shot from last year of an Austrian train passing the huge construction site for the new central train station in vienna. The tracks are on a raised causeway with construction on both sides.
Browning's Pool
2010-11-13 Named after the English poet Robert Browning (who called this area Little Venice), this calm spot in London is the junction of the Grand Union canal and the Regents canal. It was a beautiful day for walking along the canal while my spouse was at a convention.

Wonderful comments on yesterday's baby elephant. Thanks so much!
I'm leaving - on an U-Bahn
2011-02-26 Just practising taking shots of moving vehicles - in this case a Vienna subway train. I think the focal point in this shot might be too close to me.

Many thanks for the comments on the lion guarding the door - much appreciated. There are so many excellent shots posted daily to this forum. Keep up the good work.
Happy Christmas
2010-12-17
Enough of old photos! My health is much better and yesterday was a beautiful, cold winter day, so I was out and about. Here is a shot taken in front of the Karlskirche (St. Charles' Church) in Vienna Austria.

I hope you enjoy the holiday preparations without too much stress. Thanks for the kind comments on my postings of the last two weeks.
Alpacas
2010-09-21 Today's picture is of the camels at the baroque palace Schloss Hof on Austria's eastern border. They had been banned to the stables so a horse race could take place. Guess which one is the alpha male.
Schloss Hof has an active program of breeding old indigenous animals- but these alpacas belong to the other side, i.e. breeding some of the animals kept at baroque palaces.

Thanks for your comments on my nuts/fruit salesman yesterday. Much appreciated.
