Orange NJ fatal 4th alarm, 197 Central Pl. 02-20-15 : At just around 20:35 hours on Friday February 20th, 2015 the Orange NJ Fire Dept responded for a reported house fire at 197 Central Pl. on arrival companies encountered a heavy fire condition on the 1st and 2nd floors of the 2-1/2 story home with people trapped and several jumping out windows with burns in the rear and an urgent 2nd alarm was requested. Fire was already extending into the homes on both sides as companies made a very aggressive push into the building in an attempt to conduct searches as conditions rapidly deteriorated. A 3rd alarm was requested and command was forced to evacuate the building and order defensive operations. In brutal conditions with temperatures in the single digits and with wind chill factors below zero, companies worked to protect the exposures and knock down the fire in the original fire building so that they could re-enter it. A 4th alarm was requested as companies using 1 ladder pipe, 1 deck gun and numerous hand lines started darkening down the heavy fire and all visible fire in the exposures. By 22:50, firefighters were able to re-enter the building to conduct a search and work on overhaul, sadly the bodies of a 1 one year old boy and a 6 year old girl were soon located. No firefighter injuries were reported and the fire was placed under control at around 23:30 but companies remained on the scene through out the night, the original building was a total loss however both exposures were saved although suffering fire damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Passaic NJ 2nd alarm, 303 Oak St, 02-22-15 : At just after 13:00 hours on Sunday February 22nd, 2015, Passaic Fire Dept responded to 303 Oak St for a reported fire. On arrival companies found heavy smoke showing due to a working fire in the basement. As engine companies stretched lines into the basement, L-2 located and removed 2 occupants who were transported to the hospital. With a heavy fire condition in the basement, additional hand lines were advanced to the upper floors as companies opened up and checked for extension. With little headway being made in the basement and with companies reporting that the 1st floor appeared to be compromised, command ordered all companies to evacuate and an exterior attack was commenced. PSE&G was requested with a rush due to the fire on the 1st floor being gas fed. With all visible fire knocked down and the utilities secured, companies re-entered the building for extensive overhaul and final extinguishment. 1 firefighter was transported to the hospital with a minor leg injury and the fire was under control at just around 14:30. Mutual aid from Paterson, Clifton, Wallington, Carlstadt and East Rutherford assisted at the scene while additional mutual aid covered the empty city firehouses.

Clifton NJ 2nd alarm, 36 Miller Plaza, 02-22-15 : At just around 14:00 hours on Sunday February 22nd, 2015, Clifton Fire Alarm dispatched units to the area of 36 Miller Plaza for a reported working garage fire. While enroute companies reported a heavy smoke condition in the area and upon arrival of E-5, they reported a working fire in an attached garage of a 1 story ranch style dwelling. With heavy fire venting from the garage, extending into the home and treatening the Delta exposure and with explosions occuring in the garage, believed to be from propane cylinders, E-5 hit the fire with their deck gun to darken it down. T-2 arrived and initiated a primary search however they quickly needed to abandon the search and all members were evacuated from the building as conditions rapidly deteriorated and no water supply was yet established due to an inoperative hydrant. A 2nd alarm was requested as the home became heavily involved bringing all Clifton companies, a Nutley truck company as the fast team and a rescue from Elmwood Park, additional mutual aid was called into the city for cover. The fire was placed under control just before 16:00, no injuries were reported however the home was a total loss as well as a car in the garage and one in the driveway.
