Kenosha Fire Department - MABAS 3rd Alarm Part 2 - Bastrup Roofing & Supply - August 14th, 2015 : By Max Seigle - WISN 12

Vacant Kenosha warehouse fire considered suspicious.

Crews from several departments were called to the area of 28th Avenue and 64th Street.

The building was formerly a roofing company storage building. A sign on the side of the building says Bastrup Roofing & Supply.

Fire Chief John Thomsen said he was unsure how long the building had been uninhabited.

"Obviously a vacant building which has been boarded up and secured, more than likely utilities have been disconnected, obviously, we'll be treating this as a suspicious fire,” Thomsen said.

Thomsen said the heat was proving to be an issue, but buses were brought in to help keep firefighters cool.

Power had been cut to the area as firefighters work to control the blaze. 1,500 We Energies customers were without power at the height of the outage. As of 10:45 a.m., there were 150 customers without power.

"The flames got so high, burnt the poles. (I) lost my electricity, couldn't use my phone. It's been horrible,” neighbor Mona Lisa Delleon said.

She watched it burn from her balcony nearby.

"Every time they'd get it contained, it seemed like it would start up again, start up again and again and again,” Delleon said.

The fire didn't prompt any evacuations.

Ten fire departments were assisting Kenosha at the scene and elsewhere in the city.
