Jefferson Twp, NJ House Fire 43 Mason St. February 3, 2008 : Jefferson Township Fire Companies 1 & 2 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 43 Mason St. just before 10 P.M. Upon arrival they found a 1.5 story wood frame dwelling with heavy fire showing. Firefighters attempted an interior attack but were forced to withdraw due to the heavy volume of fire that was rapidly spreading. Firefighters went to a defensive operation and used at least 4 handlines to knock down the fire. The fire took approximately one hour to bring under control. Mutual aid responded to the scene from Picatinny Arsenal for a rapid intervention team, and Roxbury, Mount Arlington, and Hopatcong responded with tankers. Two firefighters suffered injuries at the scene. One was transported to the hospital by the Jefferson Rescue Squad. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Photos By: Adam Alberti

1/6/2008 Roll Over with Entrapment on N. Sandgates Rd : At 1811 hours Company 7, EMS Station 79, and 29 were dispatched in front of 26575 North Sandgates Road for the Personal Injury Accident. Initial reports advised one overturned in front of that address. Squad 7 (F/F Nelson) responded a few moments later along with Engine 72 (F/F Insley). The EMS unit out of 79 was first to arrive on the scene advising one trapped. Squad 7 arrived next on the scene and went to work. Engine 72 arrived to the destination a few moments after assuming the North Sandgates Command. The vehicle had went off road and struck a tree sending it on it's side with only one subject inside the vehicle. The crew split up and the first crew used Paratech Struts to stabilize the vehicle, as the second crew began to gain entry so medical personnel could gain access to the subject once the vehicle was stabilized. Once those task's had been completed the crew went to work taking the roof and folding it down. Firefighters then had to cut the steering wheel as the subjects lower body was trapped under the wheel and pedals. Within a few minutes the crew had extricated the subject out of the vehicle and transported them to the hangar where Trooper 7, along with Engine 21 (Mechanicsville) were awaiting for the Landing Site. Auto Accident - City of Beacon Fire Department - Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Toll Plaza - July 1985 - From my archives : These photo's were taken in July of 1985 and are of an auto accident that occurred on Interstate 84 at the toll plaza of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge in the City of Beacon N.Y. I was awakened at approximately 1:00 am on a warm July morning by a phone call from the New York State Police requesting that I respond with my photography equipment to a serious accident at the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge toll plaza. When I arrived at the scene, I could not believe what I saw....... A tractor-trailer had driven over a car containing I believe five young women completely destroying their car and leaving them all heavily entangled in what was left of their vehicle. I was greeted by several troopers all of who asked me to document the scene and offered to help me in any way I needed. I also had help from the City of Beacon Fire Department and Chief Steve VanBuren who allowed me to get into some elevated positions to get some unique images. The City of Beacon Fire Department operated with the assistance of the Chelsea and Rombout Fire Departments and the EMS was handled by the Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps with assistance from Sloper-Willen and Mobile Life Support Ambulance. These are some of the photo's that I took of the incident and are digital scans from slides...... I believe all the woman were released from the hospital within several days after the incident - An incredible accident with an equally incredible outcome........ If anybody has any more details they would like to add or correct, please let me know..... Thanks....Bill
