SENIOR FIREFIGHTER WALTER HARRIS 11.15.08 : WE REGRET TO INFORM YOU OF THE LINE OF DUTY DEATH OF SENIOR FIREFIGHTER WALTER HARRIS ENGINE CO. 23 The Detroit Fire Department suffered a tragic loss this morning (11-15-08). SFF Walter Harris was killed when the roof of a dwelling collapsed on him and another firefighter. Walter was a member of the class of March 1991. Almost having 18 years of service Walt was the best of the best. Not only did we lose a fellow Firefighter today, We lost a Brother, Friend, and Role Model for ALL young Firemen. Roxbury Structure Fire - Berkshire Valley Rd 10-30-08 : Flames lit up the evening sky as a heavy volume of fire ripped through an abandoned two story wood frame house located at 349 Berkshire Valley Road in Roxbury, New Jersey. Just before midnight on Thursday, October 30, 2008 the Roxbury Fire Department requested tankers (water tenders) from nine surrounding towns to respond to the scene this fully involved working structure fire. Authorities stated that the home, built in approximately 1870, had been abandoned for nearly fifteen years. The deep seated fire was brought under control in just about an hour by means of a tanker shuttle and pool operation due to the lack of sufficient hydrants in this residential area. Firefighters from Jefferson Township Company # 2 responded to the scene, as did firefighters from Mount Arlington, Hopatcong, Wharton, Mine Hill, Netcong, Budd Lake, Chester and Randolph. Incident command was terminated as the last hot spots were extinguished, nearly five hours later. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by the Roxbury Fire Prevention Bureau, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office's Arson Squad and Roxbury Police Department.

Detroit Box Alarm 18045 Dresden 11/14/08 : On November 14, 2008 at 1:30pm the 9th Battalion responded to the report of a dwelling fire. Companies arrived to find a 1.5 story bungalow with fire on the upper floor and in the attic space. E60 stretched and used one attack line, while the crew of L23 performed vertical ventilation operations. E46/50/60 L23 S6 and C9 worked for over a half an hour to bring this fire under control.

Box Alarm E. Ferry & Ellery on 11.01.08 : Fire fighters responded to the corner of E. Ferry & Ellery for a reported fire in a 2 ½ story home as units approached smoke was showing, and they advised they would be stretching in. As the first due engine turned the corner they had a 2 ½ story with heavy fire thru out and a 1 story commercial building next to it on fire. It took fire fighters over an hour to bring the fire under control.
