FRANCE: 13-15 September 1988 : My first overseas trip purely with railways as a motive, a three day coach trip organized by S.T.A.R.S., with overnight stays at a hotel at Charles de Gaulle Aeroport, Paris.
DAY 1 (13th September): Calais Ville SP (11 locos), Lens depot (70 locos), Douai station (4 locos), Somain SP (18 locos), Amiens SP (16 locos, + DMUs), Longueau depot (37 locos, + DMUs), plus a couple of Paris termini (Nord & Est) in the evening, producing another 29 locos.
DAY 2 (14th September): Paris La Plaine depot (39 locos, + DMUs), Acheres depot (71 locos, + units), La Chapelle depot (41 locos, + units), La Villette depot (89 locos, + units), Bobigny SP (25 locos), Le Bourget SP (2 locos), plus evening visit to Paris Nord, Est, Austerlitz & Gare de Lyon, adding another 16 locos.
DAY 3 (15th September): Villeneuve St Georges depot (75 locos, + EMUs), Paris Sud-Ouest depot (69 locos, + 2 DMUs), Sotteville depot (62 locos, + DMUs).
A fair number of locos & units were seen en route from the coach etc, and many were seen passing the locations we visited, the most notable being La Villette (34 locos & 5 EMUs passing) and La Chapelle (21 locos & 10 units passing). A visit WAS planned to Charolais SP on Day Two, but the coach driver made the mistake of driving for 30 minutes in entirely the wrong direction, so it had to be cut from the itinerary owing to the reduced time factor. No photos from Calais Ville SP (still dark), Bobigny SP & Le Bourget SP (too dark), Paris termini (too dark), Villeneuve St Georges depot (not light enough yet) or Sotteville depot (ordered not to take photos as running late).
