Deutsche Bahn: München; February 2010 : Trip to the hallowed DB ground in München, February 2010. The temperature was the coldest I'd experienced in a long time, bitingly cold but superb for photography.

EAST GERMANY: Narrow Gauge #4: Cranzahl to Kurort Oberwiesenthal 13 April 1991 : My fourth, and final, trip on a DR narrow-gauge system was the 750mm gauge 'Fichtelbergbahn', with a track length of just over 17km from Cranzahl to Kurort Oberwiesenthal (the highest railway station in Germany); the line passes almost at arm's length from the former Czechoslovakia as it nears Kurort Oberwiesenthal.

EAST GERMANY: The Harz Narrow Gauge #3: Nordhausen to Wernigerode/Schierke 11 April 1991 : The 1000mm gauge Harz Railway was the third DR narrow-gauge line I visited in April 1991; I travelled from Nordhausen Nord to Eisfelde-Talmühle, Elend, and Drei Annen-Höhne, from where I took the branch to Schierke & return, then on to Wernigerode, on 11th April 1991. I disembarked at Wernigerode Westerntor to have a look at the Works yard, then walked to the terminus & depot adjacent to Wernigerode Bf (standard gauge).

EAST GERMANY: Narrow Gauge #2: Bad Doberan to Ostseebad Kühlungsborn West 10 April 1991 : The "Molli" was the second of the DR narrow-gauge lines I visited (on the same day as the Rügensche Kleinbahn); this 900mm gauge railway runs for 15.4km between Bad Doberan and Ostseebad Kühlungsborn West, and involves street running in Bad Doberan itself. This is a small collection of photographs, but the visit was very enjoyable.

EAST GERMANY: Narrow Gauge #1: Putbus to Göhren 10 April 1991 : The 750mm gauge Rügensche Kleinbahn, affectionately know as 'Rasender Roland' ('Rushing Roland' - very apt, in my case), which operates between Putbus and Göhren, was the first of four DR narrow-gauge systems which I travelled on during my 10-day escapade at the start of April 1991. I thought that each of these railways deserved its own small collection, instead of being included with the DR standard gauge, which will soon be completely seperate. A number of these photos have been switched from that collection.

EAST GERMANY: 08-18 March 1991 : This is basically an East German trip. Travelling from Gosport to Dover via London, taking the 01:00 Oostende ferry. The full itinerary, which happens as it happens, is as follows:- DAY 1 (Mon 8th April): Oostende, Köln Hbf, (Frankfurt Main), München Hbf, Donnersburgerbrücke, München Hbf, (Regensburg, Hof). DAY 2 (Tue 9th April): (Hof), Dresden Hbf, Leipzig Hbf, Haale Hbf, Magdeburg Hbf, Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, Leipzig Hbf, Zeitz, (Zeitz depot, incomplete - 7 locos), Leipzig Hbf, (Juterbog). DAY 3 (Wed 10th April): (Juterbog), Binz, Lietow, Bergen, Putbus, Göhren, Putbus, (Putbus depot - 6 locos) Lauterbach, Bergen, Stralsund, Velgast, Rostock, Bad Doberan, Ostseebad Kühlungsborn West (OKW depot - 2 locos), Bad Doberan, Rostock, Warnemunde, Rostock, Neubukow, Rostock, Erfurt Hbf. DAY 10 (Wed 17th April): (Bebra), Eisenach Hbf, Berlin Schöneweide, Berlin Hbf, Berlin Lichtenberg, Cottbus, Görlitz, Lobau, Bautzen (Bautzen depot - 24 locos), Hoyerswerda, Hohenbocka, Falkenburg, Halle Hbf, Leipzig Hbf, (Magdeburg Hbf). DAY 11 (Thu 18th April): (Magdeburg Hbf, Hannover Hbf), Köln Hbf, Oostende, Dover Western Docks, London Victoria, Clapham Junction, Waterloo, Portsmouth Harbour. * Footnote: on day 2 an abortive attempt was made to procure the use of a hotel, but it seems hotels were in short supply in the old DDR, and those I found were either full, or too expensive, so I spent every night on overnight trains, which were plentiful at the time, and on all but one occasion I had the entire compartment to myself.

Deutsche Bahn: Frankfurt, November 2010 : A trip to Frankfurt for some 110 haulage & photography. A sad loss are 143s from the east bank of the Rhein, with new trains replacing them on the following Monday of my visit.
