9th Annual Civil War Re-Enactment & Living History Weekend; Lambertville, NJ : This year I donned my 21st century attire and headed to Lambertville to photograph the re-enactment and living history weekend. As you can see, the weather on Saturday was perfect -- definitely not too hot for an August afternoon. There seemed to be fewer people participating than in past years but that was fine -- because the field in which the battle re-enactment takes place is small and the numbers there this year were perfect for that venue. Union and Confederate were pretty evenly matched, too. The unit that stole the show was the 1st Texas Company D. They distinguished themselves in the battle here just like their counterparts distinguished themselves in places like Gettysburg, Antietam, the Wilderness, etc. Here at Lambertville they kept the Union forces occupied so the 44th Georgia could take care of business.

Washington Crossing Dress Rehearsal 2009 : Photographs taken at the annual dress rehearsal for the Christmas Day re-enactment of the 1776 crossing of the Delaware River by Washington's army. It rained the entire day but that did not keep the public from attending the event, which took place at Washington Crossing State Park on Sunday, December 13, 2009. The actual re-enactment will take place on Christmas Day. Sadly, due to budgetary problems the State of Pennsylvania has decided to shut down Washington Crossing State Park. It's a shame that the state has such little regard for what took place here in 1776. It's because of the success of the 1776 crossing that our state (and federal) government representatives have jobs in the first place and they seem to forget that.

8th Annual Civil War Re-Enactment & Living History Weekend; Lambertville, NJ : This event is held annually at the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead in Lambertville and took place on August 9-10, 2008. On Saturday the weather was perfect. Sunday morning didn't start off too badly but by noon the skies were clouding over and Sunday's battle took place between rain showers. All these photos were taken "after hours" because this was the first year I took part in the living history event during the day. Carrying a 21st century camera while wearing 19th century attire is not proper, as far as I'm concerned, so I left the camera home but returned after dinner in 21st century clothes to spend some time with friends and to take photos after the general public had gone home. This was also my first time at this event after hours and I was pleasantly surprised at how the 19th century ambience extended into the evening hours. When I arrived, the Confederate Ladies were having tea. Soldiers were sitting around campfires relaxing and chatting. As I walked over the the Union camp, I'd heard rumors of there being gypsies in camp! It didn't take long to find them. Right in front of their tent, what should I find but young men and women partaking in games of chance!
