The daylong fasting ends at sunset and the faithful break their fasting with the delicacies of IFTARI. The fasting is meant to teach a person patience, humility and sacrifice, to set aside time to ask forgiveness, practice self-restraint, and pray for guidance in the future. Dhaka , particularly its densely populated older section bustles and buzzes with the rush home and the selling and buying of Iftari items as the time for Iftar draws near. Almost every restaurant of the city, from the 5-star hotels to local street outlets prepares their traditional and special Iftari items. Iftari items displayed on open-air stalls and tables with the adjacent gas burner or the stove frying Iftar items on large pans, some other in syrupy liquid and sizzling the other Iftaris over red-hot charcoal fire becomes the iconic Ramazan image of Dhaka.Chawk Bazar in old Dhaka is famous. The entire road in front of Shahi Masjid throbs with the hustle bustle. Jam packed with crowds. Top item is `Muri' (sand fried rice), and there is Piazu (paste of mashed lentils), `Beguni' or `Beson' (crushed yellow peas), `Jilapi' (sweetmeat), `Halim' (pasty broth), `Swami' and `Nargisi' Kabab with boiled egg, `Shik Kabab' (meats on skewers) as well as `dahi bara' (curd items). It was also mind boggling to see large number of people were using this mucky water of the river to swim, play, drink, gargle, brush their teeth and take bath all within feets of each other! Same water has the ship breaking with oil leaking making the river thick black as well as crab & fishing all side by side. Young, old, everyone seems to have the world's best immunity system! Dhaka, Bangaladesh Buriganga River (Bangla: বুড়িগঙ্গা Buŗigônga "Old Ganges"). Buriganga is the life line and much happens in and around this river. It is the main river flowing beside Dhaka, capital cityof Bangladesh. With an average depth of 39 feet (12 m) its quite amazing to see the activities along the river. Unfortunately, the river is Dhaka's main outlet of sewage waste and is threatened by pollution and waste.

But what is amazing is their immunity system and ability to handle the conditions. Since this is the river banks of Buriganga - one of the most polluted rivers. Within inches and feets of them are leaking oil drums, welding sharpels, garbage, waste plasitc, and God knows what else! Yet in this very same water of the river children can be seen swiming, playing, drinking water without aparent problems or infection.
