Its a Bugs Life : We are all too much inclined to walk through life with our eyes shut. There are things all around us, and right at our very feet, that we have never seen; because we have never really looked. ~ Alexander Graham Bell

DragonFly_Plus @ SJMonument : Went with Ken Coleman to San Jacinto Monument to photographed birds. Saw few birds, but we saw hundred of dragonflies and a few damselflies amongst them. They were primarily feeding and mating with little perching. Probably need to try back early in the morning or late in the evening. I wasn't prepared. This shoot definitedly needed a tripod and shutter release. Depth of field was a problem shooting a 500mm lens at 9.5 feet away. F10 was enough and to shoot at F22, I would have had to bring my flash.

On Wednesday the 13th I added the flash and experimented with a wide range of ISOs from 200 to 800. I continued to use the tripod, but without a shutter release.

On Thursday the 14th, I went back late in the afternoon. The large dragonflies weren't as plentiful and they weren't lighting either. Experimented with in-flight shots. Read when using shutterspeeds between 1/15 and 1/125 sec. on a tripod you should use the mirror lock-up function. Experimented with this on a number of the shots. There was a new specie of damselfly.
