My Sketches : I'm not an artist but sometimes when I am in a good mood or when I am stressed up then I do draw sketches here and there on the pieces of paper, just to be binned later on. But sometimes I do like some ideas behind those drawings and I keep them to be uploaded later on, on my website. It's only since the end of last year (2006) that I have begun to draw more and more - couple of sketches per month. I feel that I have got the artistic germs but I don't know whether at this age (in my 40's) I will have the time and the patience to develop it any further!

Paragliding : Dave and I got to do some paragliding in Islamabad. First we went to Daman-e-Koh to look over the city. We then did some ground training and finally soloed from a small hill next to the Margalla Range.

Pakistan : For our first few days in Pakistan we had no access to news from outside, except for one tour group going north, who gave us an outline of the events of 9-11. Finally, we heard that all foreigners needed to leave the country. Much as I loved the people and scenery of the Hunza valley, I was glad to comply! I think I was on the last Cathay Pacific flight to leave Karachi for Bangkok for several months.

Karakoram Highway : From Kashgar we started up the Karakoram Highway to the highest land border in the world - China meets Pakistan at 15,500 feet. After one night in yurts on the shores of Kara Kul at 12,000 feet and one in the small town of Tashkurgan, we crossed into Pakistan hours after the 9-11 attacks. With only hardly-credible rumors reaching us (no TV, radio or newspapers up here), we pushed worries aside to marvel at the scenery.

IDEAS 2006 : IDEAS 2006 was held in Karachi in November 2006 and was an imrpessive expo. I wasn't carrying a camera for most of the functions otherwise there would have been some wonderful shots from the Mobility Display and the Joint Forces Display. Nevertheless the ballistic missiles on display were very impressive.

Trek to Nanga Parbat Base Camp : I set the team a challenge. Trek from Raikot Bridge where the Karakoram Highway crosses the Indus, up to the Base Camp of Nanga Parbat. This is one of the ten treks in the world with the fastest elevation gain. The men started at 4000 ft on wednesday evening at 4:00 pm and were up at Fairy Point at 9000 ft in 3-4 hours. The next morning we left at 7:00 am and the first team was at Base Camp by noon at almost 13-14000 ft. The team then descended back to Fairy Point and jeeped to Raikot because we were running out of daylight. The locals thought it was crazy and could not be done so quickly, but the team was fit and strong and showed great resilience, stamina and teamwork to accomplish this difficult task. It was a most awesome adventure.

Earthquake in Pakistan : Pictures from the Earthquake zone in Pakistan. I was there for a few days in November to deliver tents and develop an understanding of the magnitude of the task still remaining. The primary purpose of the visit was to coach the Pakistan Rowing Team but any off day took me up North with the help of my cousins, Adil and Shahid and Uncle Joji. Many thanks to Matt Cawthorne, Matthew Ellinwood, Rich Siemer, Jeff Iqbal, Tariq and Ayusha Chaudhary who all helped with buying and shipping the tents. This is a good cause and you have made a difference.
