Working Fire Providence, RI 8 Violet Street March 10, 2010 : Providence, RI – Fire alarm stilled out Engines 7, 14, 15, Ladders 4 and 6, Special Hazards, Rescue 6, and Battalion 3 to 8 Violet Street for a reported dwelling fire. Engine 7, who was on the air after clearing a medical run, reported smoke showing from the area of the State House. The 7’s arrived to find heavy fire extending up side C of a 1.5 story occupied wood frame dwelling and called the working fire. Firefighters stretched a 1 ¾” attack line to the rear via side B and quickly attacked the heavy fire. The fire had made its way into the non-insulated bay and raced up and into the attic space. Ladder 6’s crew made the roof and opened it up. Heavy fire tore through the vent hole seconds after the sheathing was pushed in. The fire was now blowing out the side C gable end and roof vent. Interior companies had several other hand lines placed into operation as the truckies opened the ceilings to expose the fire and knock it down. Primary and secondary searches were also conducted with negative results. Engine 12 and Ladder 3 (fill in), Engine 2 (safety), Ladder 1 (F.A.S.T.), Division Chief 1, and Engine 5 with the Air Supply all responded as the working fire companies. Rescue 4 was special called to the scene due to a minor firefighter injury. The bulk of the fire was extinguished in 30 minutes time. Extensive overhaul of side C and the attic continued as the companies picked up hand lines and feeders. The fire in under investigation for origin and cause.

March 9, 2010 - HIRES - Garden of the Gods Park : Two individuals from Pennsylvania visiting Colorado Springs received an unwanted reception from the Colorado Springs Fire and Police Departments. The two scrambled up North Gateway Rock via Tourist Gulch, to the top of the Kissing Camels rock formation located within the Garden of the Gods park in Colorado Springs. Doing so without appropriate rock climbing gear and permits is illegal. A permitted rock climber on an adjacent rock formation noticed the two individuals and called 911. The Colorado Springs Fire Department's High Angle Rescue Team (Engine 5 and Engine 13) responded and assisted the two to safety. Once down, the Colorado Springs Police issued the two with a citation for a mandatory court appearance. The two potentially face reimbursement for the costs of their rescue. Both individuals were uninjured, except for their pride, and will most likely never forget their trip to Colorado Springs.
