2009 Eastpointe (MI) Fire Department RIT Training : During the week of November 16th, 2009 the Eastpointe (MI) Fire Department conducted its annual Rapid Intervention Training. This is the 8th year that the Department has done this training; the goal was to provide a refresher to the members of the Department on procedures of RIT operations. Conducted over a three day period each shift was able to practice many procedures in locating and rescuing a trapped or injured firefighter.

Each shift was able to perform the following drills:
•	Mayday
•	Denver Drill
•	Victim Extrication utilizing a single pulley
•	Ladder Bailouts
•	Self-extrication from a second floor window

Each year the Department studies new techniques for RIT and practices putting them into practical use, normally this training is done onsite at the Fire Station, however this year they were fortunate enough to secure a vacant dwelling scheduled for demolition to use for this year’s training. With the use of the vacant dwelling, Department members were able to train in more “real world” conditions.

2nd Alarm Burrillville, RI 190 Sherman Farm Rd January 27, 2010 : BURRILLVILLE, RI - A passer by telephoned 911 reporting smoke pushing from a structure at 190 Sherman Farm Road around 0930hrs on January 27, 2010. The caller stated that the smoke did not seem to be from the chimney but from the dwelling itself. Station 2 responded to investigate the caller's information. Upon arrival Engine 21 had smoke showing from a 25x40 story wood framed residence. A working fire was sounded requesting the box to be filled out with the rest of the Burrillville departments. The crew from Engine 21 stretched in a 1.75" attack line to start the fire attack which seemed to be concentrated on the 2-3 corner of the second floor. A car was parked in the driveway leading command to think that house was occupied at the time of the fire. An aggressive primary search commenced throughout the home to find this possible occupant. The OIC then requested a second alarm to the scene bringing in departments from Uxbridge, MA, Millville, MA, and East Putnam, CT for tankers. The roof was opened on side 4 to release the trapped smoke and gases from the attic space. Interior companies had the bulk of the fire knocked down in 15 minutes of their arrival. There was some minor fire extension into the attic above the fire room but was also quickly wet down. A draft site was set up by Nasonville at the Harrisville Mill Pond boat launch to fill the tankers. A thorough search proved that there were no occupants in the dwelling at the time of the fire. Three hand lines were stretched in and operated to extinguish the fire. Salvage tarps were placed on the first floor to protect belongings from water damage. The RI Fire Marshal's Office was on scene to help with cause and origin. No injuries were reported.
