Box Alarm; Lodewyck & South Hampton (08/10/07) : On the afternoon of August 10th, 2007, a box alarm went out for a fire in a dwelling on the corner of Lodewyck and Southampton. Engines 52, 38, 58 Ladder 31, Squad 6 and Chief 6 responded. The fire was located on the first floor.

I would like to thank the members of Engine 34, Engine 58 and Squad 6 for their hospitality. The firefighters in Detroit, Michigan are probably right now, the busiest in the country for fire duty. Companies have been permenantly closed by the city. There aren't enough spare apparatus to go around when a company needs one. If there isn't a spare, the company is placed out of service! The last of the department's layed off firefighters are in the process of being rehired.

Detroit is going through right now what the FDNY faced during our war years. Arson is a huge problem. It is hard to imagine that in our day and time that a city in our country is going through this. There are literally hundreds of vacants throughout the city. From private dwellings, to multiple dwellings, schools, factories and commercial buildings.

Through the cities depression, the brothers in the DFD stand tall awaiting their next alarm. Stay Safe Brothers....

As members knocked the fire down and searches were made, they discovered very large quantities of home grown marajuana throughout the house.
