Dead Sea Area : Masada is a broad plateau of 20 acres, rising steeply 1300 feet above the Dead Sea. Masada, the site of Herod's magnificient constructions was also where the drama of the final revolt between the Romans and a band of Jews known as the Zealots. Nearby, hidden in the desolation of the desert lies Ein Gedi - a beautiful oasis used by David when he hid from King Saul who sought his life.

Beth Shean : Excavations from Bet Shean (Beth Shean) show 18 levels of occupation from 4000BC onward. Alotted to the tribe of Manasseh, finds include Egyptian temples, bath, market places, a Roman theater, a colonnaded street lined with shops and several large synagogues.. Here Jew and Gentile seem to have coexisted together. In 749 an earthquake felled the city and thereafter it fell into obscurity.
