Megiddo : The Tel of Megiddo overlooks the Valley of Armageddon - where the final battle between the forces of good and evil will take place. Megidddo excavations reveal 20 cities superimposed on on top of the other. The oldest of these dates back to 4000 BC. Megiddo was one of the walled cities taken by Joshua.

Caesarea : Caesarea was constructed on the glittering shores of the Mediterranean Sea in 20BC by Herod, and named for Augustus Caesar. Herod erected edifices of white stone and sumptuous palaces, a theater and an amphitheater. There was an elaborate water supply system which brought water from the Carmel range via an aqueduct. Herod also built a deep water harbor with storehouses and offices. For 600 years Caesarea was the capital of the Roman province of Judea. Simon Peter preached to the gentiles here at the house of Cornelius the Centurion - the first pagan to be baptized a Christian. Paul was also imprisoned here for awhile.

Ein Gedi: October 13, 2009 : The day I didn't do so well on a hike!
After Sukkos, with Steve and Shalom, still on bain hazmanim, and Zahava, Moshe, and I working, Moshe and I took a day off, Steve and I rented a car, and the two boys came with us to Ein Gedi. Steve had never visited the Park, and I went in 1969! Instead of doing the easier hike to David's waterfall, we decided (my brilliant idea) to do a little more difficult walk thru' the Wadi Arugot. Well, I was not able to complete the walk, and Steve and I returned. Moshe and Shalom went on to the little falls at the end of the hike. I was really overcome by the heat and the upward climb. Not only that but, being a "chacham ba'layla", I had frozen all our water bottles, and despite the immense heat, they were not melting fast enough! We had to keep taking sips. I did managed to take some pictures - of course! And I insist on going back another time - in cooler weather - to try the easier trail to the David waterfalls.
But I do admit that I need to limit my expectations of what I can manage these days...
By the way, we had the opportunity to say the "Oseh ma'asai braishit" bracha, when we got our first glimpse of the Dead Sea - in the week of Parshat Braishit.
There are four pages of pictures.
