Joshua Tree National Park - several locales : Joshua Tree only achieved National Park status in 1994. Prior to that, it was designated a National Monument. It lies in SE Califonia, bounded on the north by CA HWY 62, which runs through Twentynine Palms, and by I-10 on the south. The two roads intersect at the NW corner of the broad Coachella Valley, NW of Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs. The valley, through which runs the infamous San Andreas Fault, borders the Little San Bernadino Mountains, which form the western edge of the park. The park is interesting both from a geologic point of view, and for the fact that it contains two separate high desert regions, the Colorado (lower and hotter) and the Mojave, with distinct transition zones between them. This gallery will include pictures from several locations within the park. Among these locales are the Cholla Cactus Garden, Keys View, the Oasis of Mara, Cap Rock, and a stretch of the loop road that connects the two northern entrances to the park (at the town of Joshua Tree and at Twentynine Palms).
