 > LHD-8 being Fueled
 > The Makin Island passing the closed Naval Station Pascagoula on Singing River Island which was badly damaged during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.This is the last of the WASP Class LHD to be built,and is being delivered to the U.S. Navy.04 February 2009.The LHD-8 was also damaged,along with other ships being built at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in Pascagoula,by Hurricane Katrina delaying her delivery date to the United States Navy.
 > LHD-8 being turned around so it can get underway for Builders Trials 2.It is the last WASP Class LHD to be built.All eight were built at the Pascagoula Northrop Grumman Shipyard Ingalls Operation.
 > Turning the USS Makin Island around at the Mouth of the East Pascagoula River at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in Pascagoula,Ms.
 > The USS Makin Island in the Gulf of Mexico,04 February 2009.It was leaving Northrop Grumman Ship Systems Ingalls Operation Pascagoula for Builders Trials 2.They had a fire on Builders Trials 1.This is the last WASP Class LHD to be built.It has unique characteristics from the previous Seven.Instead of Steam Turbines,it has 2 G.E. Gas Turbines rated at 35,000 hp,with Fairbanks Morse engines powering the 6 4,00Kw Diesel Generators on board.Their is no steam aboard this ship.except when the Cooks prepare boiled eggs.lol.It is set to be delivered to the Navy this summer.Probably in July.
