Montauk Storm Damage May 2009 : I took these pictures on Saturday and Sunday May 9 & 10, 2009. On Friday May 8th they had had straight line winds move through the park and the surrounding area. We heard there was a tornado in Licking Missouri about 12 miles by road from the park. My parent’s where campground hosts during the storm, I was talking to my mom on the phone when the storm moved in and she told me the weather was getting really weird. She said the wind was coming from two different directions. Dad was telling us when we got to the park the wind was blowing up river along the river and along the hill it was blowing in the opposite direction. Pam and I where amazed at all of the damage we started seeing north of Salem when we drove down on Saturday afternoon. All of the highways including 119 coming into the park were closed for several hours because of trees and power lines down. Highway VV heading to Licking was closed until either Monday or Tuesday. We finally drove it on Sunday May 18th and we still had to drive over the center line to go around downed trees, we even drove over power lines that where still down. It was amazing that there was little building damage and we never heard of anyone getting hurt or killed.

The trail runs between the railroad tracks and the Missouri River. There is a parking lot at each end so you start from either the east or west end.

Warrensburg General Town Sites : A town, 50 miles east of Kansas City, Missouri, is known for many things and has been in existence over 150 years. The age of the town leaves it with interesting buildings. Downtown dates from 1860 when the trains first came through. Historically significant for the Old Drum incident, Carrie Nation, Blind Boone and many others who have lived here. The University of Central Missouri is located here as well.
