Klondike Park : Welcome to Klondike Park in Augusta Missouri. The park is now owned by Saint Charles County. I remember going in there back in the late 1970’s looking for snakes. The guy that lived across the street from my Grandparent’s worked there at the time. That is also around the time the quarry closed. They use to query silica sand to make glass. As you look through my pictures you will see some of the sand. I remember hearing story’s about the query, several of my relatives worked there back in early to mid 1900’s. The closes relative that worked there was my Grandfather. Actually some of my relatives actually started the quarry and my Grandfather helped them set it up and get it running. At that time highway 94 did not come up the hill past the quarry so they made there own road to haul the equipment in. One story my dad told me was Grandpa was driving an old Mac truck with a huge crusher on it. The load was so heavy they hooked two dump trucks to the back of it to help hold it back going down the hill into the quarry. Both of the cables broke but luckily he kept the truck under control and managed to stop it with out getting hurt. Once the quarry started Grandpa ran a steam shovel. One day he laid it over because he tried to pick up to much weight. One of the workers told me there is still an old steam shovel hidden some where out in the brush. I hope to find it this winter when all the leaves drop. It would be really cool to locate it and then somehow find out if my Grandfather actually ran it. He didn’t work there very long which we where all very thankful for because a lot of the workers ended up dieing from Silicosis. Silicosis is a lung disease that is contracted from breathing the fine silica sand. My Dad also told me that my Great Aunt Easter and her husband ran a boarding room on the quarry property and she use to cook the workers lunch. From the way my dad remembers the story’s this took place around the great depression.

I hope to return to the park this fall to get the great colors when the trees start turning so check back for more pictures.

Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy your trip through Klondike Query. Please leave your comments and especially if you know some more history from this fascinating location.

September 2007 Camping Trip : Here are the pictures Pam and I took while camping with the group from church at Meramec State Park. Please feel free to add names or comments to any of the pictures.

We had a great time and we met some members from church we didn’t know. Molly had a great time meeting a lot of new folks, the best part for her is all the petting she got. We hope this becomes a yearly event or maybe do two trips a year--one in the spring and the second in the fall. What do you think?

Enjoy and have a great day!

Augusta Missouri Garage : This is the old garage in Augusta Missouri. They closed down back in the early 1990’s when they decided to retire. I use to do business with them back in the 1980’s when I lived and worked near Augusta. I’m glad to see that someone has started a new business there. I think there is a glass blower in there now. They where closed the day I was there. It is really cool also because they have kept some of the old signs and the colors of the building.
Enjoy and have a great day!

Missouri River : I call this a “Missouri River Tornado”. I shot this at the river front in Washington. There was a lot of fog laying low on the river when the sun started coming up they started forming. They would form then keep growing and moving slowly along the river. Then they would just start to disappear.
Have a great day!

Low Angle Perspective : These are shots of the forest floor that I took while hiking at Onondaga Cave State Park. I think this is the view that Elves would have if the existed. I would really like to hear your comments on these shots so please post a comment.
Thanks and have a great day!

Clean Stream 2007 : Clean Stream 2007 was a huge success! We had 12 people in 8 canoes. We picked up 76 tires; yes it was that many Glenn counted them on Monday. It really makes me sick to think that so many people consider a river there personal dump! It was hard work and I think we all slept pretty good that night but I’m already looking forward to next year. I think that is the most tires the group from Shaw has ever pulled out of the river so we have a new record to try to break next year. It was good to see that we didn’t pick up many bottles, cans, etc… I guess maybe some people are trying harder to do the right thing. The oddest thing we hauled out was an office copier machine. Why someone would throw that in the river is hard to say. It took four of us to load it in the canoe.

I have more pictures to upload so check back.

Have a great day!
