Smokey Mountains 2010 : Ridge upon ridge of forest straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. World renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America’s most visited national park.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a hiker's paradise with over 800 miles of maintained trails ranging from short leg-stretchers to strenuous treks that may require backcountry camping. Some trails are easy and others tough as my friend David Pepon and I soon learned. The Chimney Top Trail is not for the weak hearted, although I must admit I like to never made it to the top.

We spent three days of non-stop photography from 6 AM to 9PM. We hiked numerous miles, ran into a bear on the trail and captured some of the most beautiful country in the world. I hope you enjoy these pictures. Check out David's gallery at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ttlphotos/?v=1

National Ozark Riverways : Two of America’s clearest and most beautiful spring-fed rivers make up the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, the first national park area to protect a wild river system. http://www.nps.gov/ozar/index.htm The area is best reached via Interstate 44 or U.S. Route 60. From I-44 take State Route 68 south from St James, then take State Route 19 south into the park. From US Route 60, you will reach State Route 19 in Winona if you come from the west. You can then take SR 19 north to the northern areas of the park, or continue east to State Route 103 to visit Big Spring near Van Buren. Park Headquarters and Visitor Center are in Van Buren. If you follow US 60 from the east, you'll reach SR 103 first and then SR 19 about 20 miles further on. (Click on Gil-bear to return to the main menu.)

Great Falls National Park : May 14, 2010

This is a gallery of pictures I took with my buddy. While taking pictures at Great Falls we were able to capture a pair of rock climbers doing their thing. They allowed us to photograph them as they prepared and went over the cliffs.

Sequoia National Park : These photos were taken at Sequoia National Park over one day in November, 2009. The park is the home of large groves of giant sequoiya, or redwood, trees. These are different from the coast redwoods - not quite as tall but bigger in girth. Some are thousands of years old (think about that!). They are very resistant to fire, and many have been through multiple fires, as evidenced by the burn marks.

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument : I had found out about this place on-line and was interested in going, so I talked Dylan and Amy into it for Saturday morning. Very interesting formations and a pretty decent hike. Amy and I finally got to go through a slot canyon.

Glacier National Park : Glacier consists of pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains, and spectacular lakes. With over 700 miles of trails, Glacier is a hiker's paradise for visitors seeking wilderness and solitude. Glacier has only one road to cross it’s over 1 million acres and has been kept un-commercialized except for its historic chalets, lodges, transportation, and stories of Native Americans. Just outside the eastern half of the park is part of the Black Feet Reservation, who sold the land to the United States for the current park. (Click on Gil-bear to return to the main menu.)
