The U of M has a large steam generating facility near the north end of the Stone Arch Bridge. It heats most of the U's East Bank Campus.
Night-shots > popular all-time > Merriam Street Bridge at Night; Minneapolis, Minnesota

There's a bit of breeze even on the calmest evening. So there's a bit of blur in the tree branches. You decide if it matters.

Merriam Street connects Nicollet Island with Main Street in old St. Anthony Village (the oldest part of Minneapolis).
Night-shots > popular all-time > Interstate 35W and 10th Avenue Bridges at Night; Minneapolis Minnesota

The 35W Bridge on on the left, the Tenth Avenue Bridge is on the right. The new bridge is a monumental, emphatic and very brilliant presence at the east end of the Mill District. It would have a Stalinist feel, except the old Soviet architects and engineers lacked LED lights. All that lighting does lend itself to nighttime photography. You decide what you think of it.
Night-shots > popular all-time > Hennepin County Government Center; Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Hennepin County Government Center was completed in 1977. The building consists of two towers on either side of a glass-enclosed atrium. Interior balconies overlook the atrium. Unfortunately, people started jumping off those balconies and they had to be inclosed. Even in warm sunlight, the building exudes a cold, monolithic, Stalinist feel. The feeling is worse at night. Longtime Minneapolitans still call it "The Toaster."

Night-shots > popular all-time > Under the Central Post Office; Minneapolis, Minnesota

The downtown post office sports a colonnade, of sorts, along West River Road. It's attractive and has the unintended advantage of sheltering for the homeless. Until they get chased off. Nobody was in residence when I took this shot...

HIspanics have brought new life to parts of Lake Street. Some of their businesses are quite fancy. Others have more of a "homemade" feel to them. They're my favorites.
