Night-shots > popular all-time > The Stone Arch Bridge and the New 35W Bridge; Minneapolis, Minnesota

When it's illuminated, the new 35W Bridge casts a brilliant glow across the Mill District. I don't know that it goes with the rest of the district, but it certainly makes an emphatic statement.

Converted to black and white with some filtering and a bit of tint.
Night-shots > popular all-time > The shot that took me seven years to capture... Colorado's storms were too brief and moved out of my viewfinder until August 2007, when I finally got lucky and captured two bolts before the thundercloud could flee. I can't wait to give this another try with my new D300.

There's a bit of history behind this bridge. The first span at this location was built in 1867 by the St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. (The StP&P ultimately became the Great Northern Railroad.) The Great Northern replaced that bridge in 1893, then improved it 1926. The GN modified the bridge with this truss in 1963. I have several other views of this bridge with trains. This image is looking south from Nicollet Island toward downtown.

Sometimes a photo is real close to home. I took this one from my balcony. And I was grateful that I hadn't gone looking for night shots. I like shooting in bad weather, but photography at night and in a downpour would be a bit much.
