Night-shots > popular all-time > Boat Below the Tenth Avenue Bridge; Minneapolis, Minnesota

This party barge was waiting to lock through the lower dam at Saint Anthony Falls. Many thanks to the boat's pilot for holding her motionless against the current while I made several exposures. Thanks, too, to the couple in the stern for not moving. Don't know how their evening turned out, but I got the photo.

The arched bridge in silhouette is the Tenth Avenue Bridge. The "blue bridge" visible through the arches and spandrels is the new Interstate 35W Bridge. The Stone Arch Bridge can be seen in the background. The closed lock gate is visible to the left.

Air conditioning compressors, dumpsters and a street light can make a composition when viewed from the right place.

Night-shots > popular all-time > Martin Olav Sabo Bridge 1; Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Sabo Bridge carries the Minneapolis Greenway Trail over busy Hiawatha Avenue. It's a 2,200 foot long cable-stayed suspension bridge. The bridge was dedicated in 2007. I never really liked it until I finally was up on the deck. Now I understand. This is a cool design.

The Wasburn Crosby Mill stood vacant from it's close in 1965 until it was largely destroyed by fire in 1991. The fire was likely started by homeless people trying to stay warm on a cold February night. The historic milling equipment inside the building also went up in flames. The Mill City Museum was constructed inside of the old mill's shell. A stunning architectural work, and lots of fun, it opened in 2003.

There's been some utility work around my place. I decided to take advantage of the possibilities.

This part of Northeast Minneapolis is a "transitional" neighborhood. Meaning it was doing fairly well until the recession came along. These days, there are some dead businesses and scruffy old buildings mixed in with the trendy cafes.
