Night-shots > popular all-time > January Twilight: Saint Paul and Ramsey County Courthouse; Saint Paul, Minnesota

The Ramsey County Courthouse was completed in 1932. The original tower is a perfect example of American Art Deco. This is a splendid building inside and out. I hope to get some interior photos at some point. The steam plume comes from the District Heating Plant. And yes, it takes a cold evening to get a good steam plume.
Night-shots > popular all-time > Lower Lock and Dam at Saint Anthony Falls with Two Bridges; Minneapolis, Minnesota

The arched bridge in silhouette is the Tenth Avenue Bridge. The "white bridge" visible through the arches and spandrels is the new Interstate 35W Bridge. The Stone Arch Bridge can be seen in the background. The Lower Dam's closed lock gate is visible beneath the center arch in the image.

The Tenth Avenue Bridge was completed in 1929. The original bridge was three thousand feet long. A 1976 rebuild shortened the approaches.
Night-shots > popular all-time > Rainy Night, BNSF Railroad Bridge 2; Minneapolis, Minnesota

There's a bit of history behind this bridge. The first span at this location was built in 1867 by the St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. (The StP&P ultimately became the Great Northern Railroad.) The Great Northern replaced that bridge in 1893, then improved it 1926. The GN modified the bridge with this truss in 1963. I have several other views of this bridge with trains. This image is looking south from Nicollet Island toward downtown.

Bobby and Steve's is a landmark on Washington Avenue, right by the entrance ramp to south 35 W.

A nice industrial looking scene at night.
Night-shots > popular all-time > Neighborhood at Night; Minneapolis, Minnesota

I've lived in Minneapolis for nearly three decades and there are still a lot of places I haven't visited. I stumbled upon this neighborhood when I followed a whim and went straight instead of turning. It fronts the interchange between the I35W and I94 freeways. There are some lovely old apartment buildings here that require daylight to appreciate. The wooden wall is a noise barrier to block some of the freeway din.
Night-shots > popular all-time > River Street at Night; Decorah, Iowa

It's tough to find anything brooding or ominous in a town as benign as Decorah. But I did my best.

Night-shots > popular all-time > Chess; Minneapolis, Minnesota

When I saw these two through a window, I had to get a photo. I manipulated it heavily to make sure the center of attention stays where it belongs.
