Miscellaneous Images - Macro's, Scenics, etc... : Starting going through my photo library and pulled together some various nature images taken over the past year. Some of these were taken with our small Nikon Coolpix L18 while others with my D90. A few were also taken by my daughter while we were on a Jeep trailride in Snowshoe, WV so I'll give her credit on those for sure.

"Rockin' Robin" : So my IT guy was working on my computer today at work. While waiting for him, I looked out the window of my office and noticed this Robin in a thorny tree next to our building. He was about 20' away so I threw on an 80-200 f/2.8 and tried to blur the tree and background as much as possible. Nothing spectacular, but still fun to shoot the unexpected visitor.

"Reflective Ice" : These are some images I captured out of a couple second floor windows at my house. My wife noticed the other night that the street lights and lights from the neighboring buildings allowed the icicles to refract some pretty neat colors. Most are shot with a 17-35mm f/2.8 and all were shot handheld through the windows. In most cases you will see an original, a copy that I played around with a blur filter and a second copy that I converted to B/W. I really like the way some of the B/W's turned out. Anyway...just goofing off and hope you enjoy.

"There's a Moon Out Tonight" : Images from the recent full moon. Like many people, I couldn't resist the urge to capture a couple images of this full moon as it was the largest full moon that we'll see in 2010 according to astronomers. The first few images were captured from a Corn Field in "Big Knob" / New Sewickley, PA while driving home after work. The larger images were taken 2 days later from a friends front yard in Daugherty Twp., PA. I played around with some different exposure and metering settings and then cropped in quite a bit on the larger ones and lost a little sharpness, but still satisfied wit the results. Need to get a teleconverter or longer zoom one of these days.

Pittsburgh Zoo - December 2009 : Images from a winter trip with friends to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium. The tough part about taking pics at the zoo is trying to get something that doesn't look like a posed shot or "tourist" shot. Creative cropping can help with that sometimes. The animals were pretty active given how cold it was that day, but one of these days I'm going to go hang out there all day and just try to focus on only a couple specific animals. Love shooting images of the lions and would like to get some better images of the tigers or new polar bear exhibit. The PPG Aquarium images were really tough as lighting conditions continually changed from tank to tank. Wish I had a little more time to play with exposures and lenses in there. Anyway, it was a great day shared with friends which is what's most important. Hope you enjoy.
