"Rockin' Robin" : So my IT guy was working on my computer today at work. While waiting for him, I looked out the window of my office and noticed this Robin in a thorny tree next to our building. He was about 20' away so I threw on an 80-200 f/2.8 and tried to blur the tree and background as much as possible. Nothing spectacular, but still fun to shoot the unexpected visitor.

"There's a Moon Out Tonight" : Images from the recent full moon. Like many people, I couldn't resist the urge to capture a couple images of this full moon as it was the largest full moon that we'll see in 2010 according to astronomers. The first few images were captured from a Corn Field in "Big Knob" / New Sewickley, PA while driving home after work. The larger images were taken 2 days later from a friends front yard in Daugherty Twp., PA. I played around with some different exposure and metering settings and then cropped in quite a bit on the larger ones and lost a little sharpness, but still satisfied wit the results. Need to get a teleconverter or longer zoom one of these days.

Pittsburgh Zoo - December 2009 : Images from a winter trip with friends to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium. The tough part about taking pics at the zoo is trying to get something that doesn't look like a posed shot or "tourist" shot. Creative cropping can help with that sometimes. The animals were pretty active given how cold it was that day, but one of these days I'm going to go hang out there all day and just try to focus on only a couple specific animals. Love shooting images of the lions and would like to get some better images of the tigers or new polar bear exhibit. The PPG Aquarium images were really tough as lighting conditions continually changed from tank to tank. Wish I had a little more time to play with exposures and lenses in there. Anyway, it was a great day shared with friends which is what's most important. Hope you enjoy.

Creepy Clouds over Da' Burgh' : On my drive home from work I noticed this wall of really cool, yet creepy, clouds hovering over the city of Pittsburgh. Almost made it look like Gotham City. Didn't have time to pull over so I fired off a few shots from my drivers seat and this is the results. Not the best, but still kind of cool.

"Moon, Sunset and Sky...Oh My!" : A few images I took while driving home from work one evening. All images were shot handheld as I didn't have my tripod with me in my Jeep. Hit a spot where I could capture the moon coming up while turning around to see the sunset. Should have turned around a bit sooner, but liked the color of the moon. Wish I had a longer lens there. Other images are at dusk in a farmers field. Trees look creepy and moon adds to the effect.

Moraine in the Morning : Images shot at Moraine State Park on a Sunday morning. Didn't get out as early as I'd had liked, but got a few decent shots including some B/W's at the end. The first shots of the farm were taken while on the drive to the park. I was playing around with different metering options and points. Needed a longer lens at the waterfowl observation area of the park. There is tons of wildlife at Moraine and plan to return several times and hit the trails. Got a few decent shots of a Red-Bellied Woodpecker near the Osprey nesting area. Haven't fully post-processed the images of the woodpecker in the tree, but wanted to get them out there in the interim.

Creepy Clouds & Moon : Images of the moon and clouds as they passed in the night over New Brighton. Set up my cheap tripod and goofed around with some different exposures. Some slight blur in a few due to slow exposures. No filters used in any of the pics. Picked up some ambient light reflecting off the trees in a couple which is what I think gave some of these that orange/brown tone. Not my best, but still pretty cool I thought.
