Europa (Netherlands) - The barque Europa was built for the City of Hamburg in 1911. Today the ship represents her homeport, The Hague, in the Netherlands, as a goodwill ambassador. The ship represents the end of the famous clipper era and is one of the few ships in the world to carry a full set of studding sails. Europa is the Sail Training Vessel of the Enkhuizen International Nautical College, which educates officers and masters for ocean going sailing vessels. Europa participated in the 2002 TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Pacific Coast series and the 2003 TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Great Lakes series. In between ASTA and STI organized events and races, Europa undertook expeditions to Antarctica and South Georgia in 2001 and 2003. Europa completed a Classic Cape Horn Voyage in 2002. She covered the distance from Easter Island in the South Pacific to 50 degrees South in the Southern Atlantic Ocean without the aid of engines.
