Big Pine Lakes - Palisade Glacier : July 12-16, 2006. This was a four day backpacking trip in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The North Fork of Big Pine Canyon contains 9 major lakes (and several smaller ones). We hiked to the Palisade Glacier, the largest glacier in the Sierras, at just above 12,000 ft. Some hike highlights included views of The Palisades- the highest concentration of 14,000 foot peaks in California, and Temple Crag, a beautiful peak visible throughout much of the hike.

2006 (Dec 9) Snow Crown - my 3rd attempt : After turning back last week at Heart Lake, we decided to try again with an earlier start. There was a lot of snow and ice in the boulder field so we turned back after 30 minutes. (wk 47, day 1)

2006 (Dec 3) Snow Crown - second attempt : After yesterday's trifecta, I wasn't sure how far up the trail I could go. My right knee and top of foot were pretty sore. We took a break at Heart Lake, and I heard Rachel say something about saving her knees after yesterday. I quickly said I would go back with her. Tomcat chose to be with the better looking pair and went back with us. We'll just have to do Snow Crown another time . . . this was my 2nd attempt (wk 46, day 2)
