Jacob and Josh Swim and Dive on 072612 : A new crack at taking better pictures of the two youngest grandsons swimming and diving. I used a circular polarizing lens and shot most of the shots a F2.8 so I could get shutter speeds up high enough to stop action. Wasn't possible before last November.

The "Super Moon" of 2012 : On Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11:35 p.m. EDT, the moon officially turned full. Only 25 minutes later the moon also arrived at perigee (a given orbit), its closest approach to Earth — a distance of 221,802 miles away. The effect of this coincidence was a stunning sight called the "Super Moon." The result was a 16 percent brighter-than-average full Moon. According to Wikipedia, "...The frequency of a full moon occurring at perigee is around once every 412 days. However, the occurrence of a 'perfect' supermoon, when the full moon occurs at almost the exact same time as perigee, is much rarer, at around once every 18.6 years.... Also, it is "30% bigger than any other full Moon."

All photos in this gallery were shot (hand-held) using my Sony Alpha NEX-5N camera with a 18-200mm (11X) lens.

Bees in Flight in Backyard in March of 2012 : Photographs of honeybees in flight were taken at the same time as the gallery with flowers and honeybees on the flowers. http://aubreyc.smugmug.com/My-Own-Backyard/Judes-Flowers/Judys-Lemon-Tree-and-the-Bees/21712367_csxKtB They were taken in a range from ISO200 to ISO1600. I used the Sony SLT A77V camera body and the Sony 70-400mm/4.0-5.6 'G' Series lens and in all cases extended to 400mm/6.6 or 600mm based on 35mm sensors. These were taken in a wide range of light conditions from sunny and clear to cloud covered. What is unique this year is that last year the bees were mostly Africanized honeybees.
