Ask a Texan, "Where are you from?" and he might reply, "Texas! What country are you from?" Texas is so big and diverse it's like a small country. The landscapes vary from mountains to desert to plains, rolling hills to oak savannah to piney woods and miles and miles of Gulf coast. Before leaving Washington,DC, Davy Crockett said,"You may all go to hell, I'm going to Texas." Davy never got to see the entire state before he met his demise at the Alamo but others such as Sam Houston said it for him.

Two weeks before Christmas, the trees were extra colorful as well. Brilliant way to end the year!

San Jacinto Monument - Battleship Texas & Fred Hartman Bridge : The San Jacinto Monument stands 567 feet high. It is an octogan column that is topped with a 220-ton star that commemorates the site of the Battle of San Jacinto, the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution. The monument was constructed between 1936 and 1939 and dedicated on April 21, 1939, is the world's tallest monumental column and is part of the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. The column is made with Texas shellstone, topped with a 34-foot Lone Star - the symbol of Texas. Hey! This thing is taller than the Washington Monument but we always try and do things bigger and better in Texas.
