Lines and texture seemed interesting. It could be better. Sharper. Perhaps different lighting and camera settings..... I took a dozen or so images of my two, tiny eight legged friends early this morning. Better light, a macro and more time would have been nice.

El Jay selected a Chinese buffet for dinner yesterday, after we finished buying his gifts to his brothers and made a stop at Build a Bear to spend a gift certificate he got for his birthday. I ruled out McDonald's for dinner and said I wanted to go in and sit down. He picked a place called "Hong Kong" because he had eaten there with his dad. They had this Octopus dish and El Jay was fascinated. He held the first one he got and examined it closely and asked me 100 impossible questions. Originally I planned to eat the first one, but not after he had thoroughly touched it. Then he asked for another one. He said he'd eat it, but I knew he only wanted to compare it to the first. The entire time,as he looked at them, I wished I had my camera with me. The Octopuses came home with us, so I could make some images. I didn't try to take pictures of El Jay examining them--maybe next time we eat at a Chinese buffet I'll have my camera. The cat's Morty and Shredder loved their treat.

Happy Birthday, Mckay! My 3rd son is 19 today.

I have my final grade in the photo journalism class. I got a B+ and I am disappointed in that. The professor never once during the semester told us our grades for the assignments. We critiqued everything in class and that was lt. He promised to give us our grades with a list of what assignments he had received, so we could be sure we had it all turned and he never did that. I understand that is just the way he is (and he gets away with it.) When I turned in my final assignment, according to my photo files, I had turned it all in--but I had no idea how he had graded anything. Or if he was missing anything. I feel if I had received a grade on each assignment in a timely manner that I would have pushed myself harder to get the "A" grades and reworked a few assignments.

I'll be taking an independent study class from this professor Spring semester. I hope that by working one on one with him that by the end of the semester I have a general idea of where I am grade-wise. He must feel I have potential, because he did offer to do an independent study class with me. We will work on my building a professional quality portfolio.

I feel that between the two very different photo classes Fall semester that I did learn a few things and grow as a photographer. At the same time, I feel my involvement in the daily community has helped me also. It isn't easy to post something daily. I never tried to post a new image each day, maybe I'll try doing that in the future.

Spring has sprung at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens

3-13-11

Spent a beautiful day at the botanical gardens yesterday. It was heavenly, the tulips are about halfway out, still more beds left to open.

Have to run, don't want to be late for church. Will be back online to check out and comment. Here is a link to my botanical gardens shots, I will be added for a while (I took over 1,000) http://pearls.smugmug.com/Other/Atlanta-Botanical-Gardens-3-12/16170906_LfZ7P

Have a blessed day.
Manufactured Spring

2-25-11 Friday

Could not wait for flowers so I bought this pot at Trader Joes on Wednesday.

Have a busy day today, Honors for Austin's school and I promised to be there with my camera and then rushing to Erik's school to take the individual portraits of the men's lacrosse team before their game tonight. I may not make it through the whole game unless I can find a dry spot to lay down and rest.

Have a blessed day.

Sunny Delight

Saw these beauties yesterday evening just as the light was waning, there was a bit of light coming through the trees shining down on these flowers. I had to almost lay down in order to get the daffodil in the background.

I am sorry I have been patchy again with my comments. I have been so exhausted that my brain will not work for me.

Another long day with a lacrosse game tonight at 7:30 and I am running out in a few minutes to go do my reception time at the church. I may have to give that up for a few weeks while I do the lacrosse games.

I am coming home this afternoon to rest and will get in as many comments as I can. Such beautifu work out there, so many talented photographers; kind and giving.

Hope your day is blessed.

My step daughter has been wonderfully patient with me and allowing me to practice my portraiture skills. She has modeled professionally and acts as well and really makes it easy for me...I haven't received a bill yet fortunately :)
Happy Monday all!

Edit: Per Paul's (Bellinger) request, the following is the technique used on this shot. To date I have strictly shot using natural/available light (I have been looking into renting studio time to try my hand at something different). I shot this in the early eve, shortly after 6pm (haven't adjusted the time on my camera to account for daylight savings) on an over cast day. These are my favorite conditions for the clouds act as a natural diffuser. The sun was setting to her right and behind and there is also a large oak tree behind further diffusing the light for the top of her head. No reflector was used, as it was I had to fstop down to limit glare on her face to retain skin details but still have highlights in her eyes and hair. Hope this is what you were looking for Paul. :)

Ideally, I would have liked the sun to highlight the mid-distance field but I have yet to hone my cloud shifting skills!
