Lunar Ecclipse Aug. 2007 : I crawled out of bed at 3:20 am to take these photos outside my apartment :-) Then crawled back in, still sleepy... It turns out it is really difficult to find the right setting to capture the ecclipsed moon.... Either it was too slow and the moon would move blurring the picture, or it was too fast and it would under expose.... From about 30 photos I was able to save just a few.... I finished using my small Canon Powershot S2 IS since it has a great zoom and with it I was able to get more details. But since the zoom was part digital it did make the picture a bit pixelated. Nice colors, huh?

Moon Eclipse August 28, 2007 : On August 28, 2007 there was a total eclipse of the moon. I got up at 3:40am so I could get pictures of it. It started around 3:50 with the complete eclipse occurring at 4:51am. I didn’t get to see the earths shadow move back off of the moon because it dropped below the tree line. It was really interesting because it was so bright out when the eclipse started. My shutter speed was 1/125sec. and you couldn’t see many stars. By the time the eclipse was at its peak my shutter speed dropped all the way down to 4 seconds and you could see a lot of stars and I was even seeing some meteors and there where no shadows.

These photographs of the moon were taken from the Hutchison Observatory at UC Davis with my trusty Pentax. The moon truly is beautiful even though it interferes so often with star gazing.
