Eureka & Palisades No. 4 & Galloping Goose No. 5 - Railfest 2009 : As part of the annual Railfest Celebration, the owner(s) of the Eureka & Palisades No. 4 and Galloping Goose No. 5 run special excursions on the Durango Silverton line. You can get tickets to ride these special trains and the experience is great because they include photo runbys where passengers are allowed off the train to get photos. The Durango Silverton also does fall foliage and winter photo trains where you get off and take photos as well. Even if you are not a photographer, these special trains are much more fun than the standard trip. The Eureka was built in 1875 and is the oldest operational narrow gauge steam engine. It still burns wood instead of coal. There are only two others engines of this class in existence, but they are on stationary display in museums. The Galloping Geese (originally there were 7) were used to haul US Mail and passengers on days when there wasn't enough freight to justify running a steam engine. Their lower operating costs kept the Denver Rio Grand operational for many years as the need for freight rail was replaced by other means of transportation.

Jackson Street Roundhouse; Saint Paul, Minnesota : The Jackson Street Roundhouse in Saint Paul, Minnesota, was built in 1907 by the Great Northern Railroad for servicing their locomotives. The original structure had twenty-five stalls and a seventy foot turntable. The roundhouse is now owned and operated by the Minnesota Museum of Transportation. It's a fun place to visit with lots of friendly exhibits and even caboose rides. Take a shop tour to see a steam locomotive and other equipment undergoing restoration. The yard outside the roundhouse holds a collection of locomotives and rolling stock in various stages of repair and decay. http://www.mtmuseum.org/jsrh.shtml
