A long journey home (abridged) : Our 2 and a half month journey around the world from Japan to the US going westward. This is the abridged version of the original gallery which had nearly 2000 photos. These are my favorite photos for a variety of reasons. For the most part my intention was to tell the story of our trip with as few quality photos possible. I think I did a pretty good job. Some technical notes: I edited all of the photos, for levels, exposure, colors and such, on picnik.com. All photos were originally JPG, not RAW, due to space constraints. We made it back with only enough space for maybe 15 photos. The photos were taken with a small set of equipment: A Canon SD700 point and shoot that is now dead and a Canon xTI that either had the kit 18-55 lens or a 50mm f1.4. The 50mm took a lot of practice to get used to due to its low possible aperture thus the sometimes excessive bokeh. I believe I got to be a better photographer, technically at least, over the course of our trip.

A long journey home : Our long journey westward from our home for two years in Yamagata, Japan to our home in Arkansas. We were fortunate enough to spend 2.5 months traveling with stops in 9 countries. We left Japan in August and went to Thailand for two weeks of Urban mayhem in Bangkok and relaxed off-season beaches in Krabi. We then went for a short stay in Hong Kong to watch the lights. Next we took a week, short I know, in India where we learned just how fortunate we are. After India we left Asia and hit Europe with a first stop in Athens, Greece. After a week in Athens we made our way to Munich for Octoberfest. Italy, with stops in Venice, Florence and Rome, was next. A short stop in Spain was quickly followed by a long, lovely stop in the UK where we stayed with some of our dearest friends. After saying yet another goodbye to them we flew across the Atlantic and landed in NYC for a couple of days to re-acclimate to the USA. It wasn't long until we were home, exhausted, in Arkansas. Without a doubt the most amazing experience of our life. We know we were very lucky to have the opportunity.
