Buddhist monks in colorful garb are a common feature throughour SE Asia, with Angkor being no exception. The safron color indicates that these monks are Theravada Buddhists, the majority religion in Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. During the Khmer genocide in the 1970's many monks were killed, temples and monuments destroyed and looted.
