Festival of Lights 2007 : <a href="http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/Parks/parks/vandusen/website/events/fol.htm">The Festival of Lights</a> takes place at the Van Dusen Botanical Garden, every year around Christmas. We were lucky with the weather that night, but the place was really crowded. All pictures taken with my 50mm f/1.8 lens.

2007 Picture A Day (Project 365) : <font size="3">Pictures from my life, wanderings and musings.</font><br><br>I started out trying to take and post a picture every day, but that is a lot of work. Just about half way through I hit a bit of a slump and started playing catchup. The goal was to learn more about this cool new camera I'd bought, and I figured as long as I forced myself to stay with it, the project was still accomplishing it's goal. I'd taken well over 10000 pictures in the first 6+ months, so I didn't feel too bad about taking a small break here and there. Toward the end, I switched to going on picture-taking excursions and not taking too many pictures between. Thus the large blocks of pictures from the same sessions.

Robert Dziekanski rally : November 24th, 2007 - A rally was held on the steps at the back of the VAG to call for action in the death of Robert Dziekanski. He was tasered at YVR and died. I was only at the rally for an hour or so, but it was peaceful while I was there. (And remained so after I left, I hear.)

5th evening - Vancouver at dusk : At the conclusion of our last day in Vancouver (after too briefly resting my feet from the day's sightseeing), I decided to try to catch some shots near our hotel as the evening descended. After wandering amid the high-rise buildings I ended up at the Granville Avenue theater district, a block-long pedestrian-oriented stretch of wide sidewalks and a narrow, one-way street. Lots of color, but tough to shoot without a tripod.

5th day - Chinatown, Gastown : Yeah, just like a couple of tourists! Her in the shops & him getting crazy with his camera. Oh, well; I gotta say, Vancouver is a really interesting place to explore.

4th day - In and Around Vancouver : After an early AM sojourn to the nearest Starbucks, and a little exploring of the neighborhood around our hotel (the Georgian Court, across from the B.C. Place Stadium) we drove around greater Vancouver a bit. We wandered around the shore of English Bay and out to the west end of the U of BC to look down at the log rafts and across the Gulf of Georgia to Vancouver Island beyond. Then we explored the mansions of what I guess is the Quilchena and Shaunessy districts. After a bit more wandering and gawking, we had dinner that evening at Zefferreli's on Robson Street; I highly recommend it (another suggestion from our hotel concierge).
