Signorello Estate Winery : History of the Signorello Estate Winery

Starting the Venture
Ray Signorello Jr. began his journey as winemaker and vineyard owner in the Napa Valley during the mid 1980's. Ray, born in San Francisco, California, moved to Vancouver, Canada where the Signorello family continues to maintain a home. Ray divides his time between Napa, San Francisco, Vancouver and business related travel. Ray's father, Ray Sr., initiated the vineyard project during the mid 1970's by purchasing the 100-acre estate located on the Silverado Trail in the beautiful Napa Valley. Ray Sr. worked side by side with Ray Jr., establishing the winery's reputation for excellence until his passing in the fall of 1998.

No Turning Back
Signorellos' original plan was to grow quality grapes to sell to existing wineries, but the harvest of 1985 changed this plan into a new level of evolvement. The bountiful crop allowed Signorellos to custom crush the excess grapes. This opportunity demonstrated what fabulous wine their vineyards were capable of producing. The project continues to grow, as do the spectacular 42 acres planted in several different varietals. Ray's continuing effort represents the invested energies that created this reality from a dream.

In 1986 the Signorellos began the second phase of the venture, this was the building of the main winery structure. This beautiful building is used for barrel storage, wine tasting and retail sales. Along with the building of the winery, wine production was expanded to include Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. By the end of the 1980's the Signorello family was thoroughly committed to making wine as well as growing grapes.

The decade of the nineties proved to be pivotal for Signorello Estate. In 1990 the first planting of red varietals began on the property- Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah.

What brought the Signorellos to the Napa Valley was the romantic side of winemaking; growing grapes, working the land, and enjoying the wine country lifestyle of camaraderie, good wine and great meals. While the Valley lifestyle is a very real part of the business, there is a serious responsibility to making a dream become a reality, both father and son realized this fact early in the endeavor.

This venture was a dream; now it is reality.

Viansa Vineyards & Winery : Viansa Vineyards & Winery and Marketplace – Tastefully Yours

“The natural beauty of Sonoma Valley Wine Country is undisputed and the quality of wine grapes that usher forth from its soil is legendary. But, when we looked upon the gently rolling terrain we saw more than the potential to produce world class wines. We envisioned a Tuscan sanctuary where wine, food and Italian traditions would be shared and celebrated in an unparalleled natural environment.”

A Sonoma Winery Dream
In 1989, that vision became reality with the founding and thoughtful planning of Viansa Winery and Marketplace. Viansa Winery sits gracefully on the crest of a hill, surrounded by acres of healthy vineyards, groves of olive trees and a unique 90-acre natural preserve that’s home to native California plants and wildlife. Embracing the Sonoma Valley land is a Mediterranean climate that nurtures Italian and California vines, and gives Viansa its distinct Tuscan environment.

Jewel on the Hilltop
Today, Viansa Winery graciously welcomes wine country visitors. A fine Tuscan villa crowns the landscape and provides a portal to enjoy all this wine country gem has to offer. Painted murals, massive wood beams, and Italian marble distinguish this Sonoma winery. Outside, Italian Cypress trees and stone pines embellish the extensive grounds and invite guests to relax and wander this singular Sonoma Valley retreat.
Wine country visitors may choose to take a wine tour and talk with Viansa’s knowledgeable staff. People who have chosen to work at Viansa Winery love to share their enthusiasm for wine and the environment that is their professional home. Food and wine specialists are always available, anxious to share information with visitors to Sonoma Valley wineries and locals enjoying a day of wine touring and tasting.

St Francis Winery : St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, located in the heart of Sonoma Valley, produces big, bold, full-bodied wines that deliver on flavor. Each wine is produced from 100% hand-picked Sonoma County fruit and is a direct expression of their winemaking philosophy of “maximum extraction, minimal intervention."

History
In 1971, Joe Martin, a San Francisco businessman and his wife Emma purchased the 100 acre Behler Ranch Vineyard in Sonoma Valley, located in the historic town of Kenwood. In 1979, after several years of growing and selling grapes to local wineries, the decision was made by Joe and partner Lloyd Canton to build their own winery. St. Francis Winery was established and christened after St. Francis of Assisi, in recognition of the Saint’s role as a protector of the natural world and as acknowledgement of the Franciscan order, believed to have been the first to bring European grape cultivation to the new world.

The Tradition Continues
In the Fall 1999 the construction of St. Francis’ new state of the art Winery facility was completed just in time for the 1999 harvest. The new Winery, with Hood Mountain as its picturesque backdrop is located on the Wild Oak Vineyard 1 mile west of the original Winery site in Sonoma Valley. Much care and thought was involved in the creation of this immaculate facility, allowing St. Francis winemaking team the luxury of expanding their winemaking capabilities.

With the completion of St. Francis Visitors Center in 2001, the transformation was complete. This stunning mission style Visitors Center located at the entrance of the Wild Oak Vineyard, offers three separate tasting bars, a beautiful slate patio with panoramic views of the surrounding Wild Oak Vineyards, lavender dotted gardens and vistas of the Sonoma Valley.

Sculpterra Winery and Sculpture Garden : Sculpterra Winery and Sculpture Garden has combined wine and art with a distinctive line-up of wines, a beautiful wine country setting and a magnificent sculpture garden to create a truly unique wine country experience in Paso Robles, California.

Growing up in the lower east side of Manhattan Island, Warren Frankel never imagined that he would one day be a grape grower, raising a family and building a medical practice in the oak covered rolling hills of Paso Robles, California. It was after 25 years of schooling and medical studies that Warren began to sense the yearnings for feeling the dirt beneath his feet and to harvest a crop off the land. Following his residency at U.C.L.A., and the opening of his medical practice in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California he began to take his take his desire for a simpler and more self-reliant lifestyle seriously. In 1979, Dr. Frankel moved his family and medical practice to a beautiful 90 acre ranch located in the Linne Valley of Paso Robles.

The Frankel family first planted 20 acres of pistachios' on the ranch, followed by 20 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. After the initial success with the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, Dr. Frankel expanded his plantings in 1997, planting an additional 80 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 acres of Zinfandel and 10 acres of Merlot. Cabernet Franc, Mouvedre, Petite Sirah and Viognier are the most recent additions to the vineyard.

The Frankel estate grapes are cultivated to promote intense, varietal flavors that can then be sculpted in the cellar into a final artistic statement. Meticulous winemaking practices coax the true varietal essences of the fruit forward, allowing for wines that are full-bodied, rich, and expressive. The Sculpterra portfolio of premium wines is priced from $12 - $35 and includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Zinfandel. A Merlot and a Bordeaux blend will be added to the collection in the future. Sculpterra Winery has combined wine and art with a wonderful line-up of wines, a beautiful setting and an original sculpture garden.

The Tasting Room and Sculpture Garden offers the visitor an exceptional wine tasting experience. The Sculpture garden features larger-than-life sculptures by sculptor John Jagger. Sculpted from granite and bronze, the sculptures will inspire - as will the wines.
