Courthouse Falls & Creek, NC (6-1-12) : Courthouse Falls has always been one of my favorite western North Carolina cascades. As it turns out, it is now only about a ten or so mile drive from where we now live so I can literally visit it as often as I'd like! The falls are located off North Carolina Highway 215 about 6 miles south of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Transylvania County. A rather rugged (and frequently washed out) forest road leads to within a quarter mile of the falls so they are quite easy to visit considering their location (as long as you have a high-clearance vehicle). At about 45' in height the falls are located in a deep, lush gorge which enhances the serenity of the place. This album follows the short path to the falls and includes a couple additional cascades you pass on the drive up to the falls. Enjoy...

Gorges State Park (Rainbow Falls Trail), Transylvania County (6-2-12) : Gorges State Park is North Carolina's westernmost State Park and home to some of the most rugged and variable scenery in the state. Some two dozen waterfalls cascade through its deep, rocky gorges and access to much of the park is difficult at best.
<br><br>
Located just south of Lake Toxaway, the park has seen a good number of upgrades to its infrastructure in recent years. The trail to Rainbow Falls is a good example of this. Only 5 years ago the hike to these falls was a strenuous all-day event involving a combination of overgrown trails and bushwhacking. Today, thanks to a new paved entrance road and an upgraded trail system the hike to Rainbow, Stairway, Hidden, and Turtleback Falls is now a pleasant 4-mile round trip down a wide, well-graded path. Unfortunately, however, with improved access this area has seen a marked increase in visitation so the wilderness feel (on this trail, at least) has diminished somewhat. Nonetheless, the opportunity to visit no less than four impressive waterfalls for only 4-miles of effort is one you shouldn't pass up. This is hike is a true gem of the mountains as you'll soon see...

Hamilton Waterfalls : The Niagara Escarpment runs through Hamilton. As a consequence, many small waterfalls exist near and in the city as small streams flow over the escarpment. Many of the falls are on the Bruce traill. This gallery depicts some of the falls (in alphabetical order), with a maximum of four photos per waterfall so as to not bore you. Most are very accessible and worth a walk in the fresh air. More information on the individual falls and directions to get to them is available on the Hamilton waterfalls web site http://www.cityofwaterfalls.ca/news.html

Lakes Streams and Waterfalls : – I’ve always been drawn to water when out shooting. Reflections of color in a glassy lake, silky waterfalls, and streams of water are some of my favorite subjects. I’ve even been known to find a water puddle in the desert.
