Black & White Portraits : In the multi coloured wildlife world, its great to think in Black and White as it adds a drama and a contrast to pictures that is not always seen in the coloured world. Here are a selection of various shots taken over the last few years. Enjoy

Kenya - Amboseli & Masai Mara July 12 : July 2012 and a magical trip to Kenya. Firstly I visited Amboseli, in the south, nestling under the highest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro. Sadly the clouds were low, and the snow capped summit only broke through intermittently. Its a beautiful reserve, very flat, with a salt pan in its centre. Thousands of elephant appear to have made their home on the Masai land, whilst the local vollagers still use the swamp area as watering for their cattle.

Then onto the Masai Mara itself, for a return visit. Again a place of special beauty, wide open spaces, big skies, and wonderful wildlife. Whilst I was early for the migration, this place still beholds so many beauties.

Collaring a Lion. : This is a record off the darting and traquillising of an adult male lion in the northern sector of Zambia's Kafue National Park in order to fit a collar with a tracking device. This operation, and a number of similar ones, was carried out by members of the Kafue Lion Project, an organisation created to study the movements and condition of the park's lion population so as to ensure its continued well-being and conservation.

Our Robins : Imagine my delight upon discovering a pair of robins building a nest in our cherry tree. After all, we have lived here for over 22 years and it is the first time any birds have nested in our tiny 15 ft x 20 ft front yard. As Baltimore area temperatures hit new record highs I watched in awe as the mother dutifully shielded her brood from the 102 degree heat with her own body. All nest photographs were taken through the window from the second story. No fossil fuels were burned in the creation of these photos.
