Sugarloaf Cove was once used as a harbor for massive log rafts that were towed across Lake Superior to Ashland, Wisconsin or up the lake to Duluth, Minnesota. Those days are long over. Now it's a privately administered natural area that preserves some very interesting volcanic formations and rare native plants. Sugarloaf Point, as seen in the photo, is a tombolo.
