Wooden fish shacks, net reels, and wooden Mackinaw boats, like this one, were once common on the North Shore and Isle Royal. Mackinaw boats were originally sail powered. Engines were used in later years, changing them to gas boats. Power plants ranged from converted Model T and Buick engines to more expensive marine engines by Gray Marine and Red Wing.
