Blue Norther, Artist's Point; Grand Marais, Minnesota

Blue Northers are fierce northwest winds that can sometimes follow a winter storm. They drive bitter cold air south under bright blue skies, hence their name. On this morning, the northwest wind was gusting to over fifty miles per hour on Artist's Point in Grand Marais. The point extends well into Lake Superior and is a very exposed place, so the wind hit with full force. Walking was very difficult, indeed! We won't even discuss the wind chill.
