Worth1000 > popular all-time > Molten lava meets the Pacific Ocean; this photograph was taken from about 10 feet away from the lava flow. The white 'steam' is actually highly-toxic sulfuric acid fumes and I had a charcoal-activated gas mask on, goggles and heat-resistant full body suit for taking this set of photographs. Nikon F-100, Fuji Velvia, Bogen-Manfrotto tripod, 1 sec exposure.
Worth1000 > popular all-time > Monet's Pond, Giverney, France. Monet's claim to fame as a painter was due to his role as a founder of Impressionism, and during the late 1870's his pictures were in the forefront of avant-garde art. Monet has an extensive flower garden in the back of his house wrapped around the pond above. He developed this pond by diverting a channel of water from a nearby river to run into the pond. Monet did many paintings around this pond and also from a row boat he had. More pictures of Monet's garden and house start on page 5.
