Worth1000 > popular all-time > Day 2: I love my son's eyes. They are so expressive and full of emotion. But I often wonder how he sees me. Do I appear large and intimidating? Am I wise in his eyes, or does he see me as old and foolish? The real question in my mind is whether or not he will respect the things I teach him. How much of it will he retain and then apply to his life. I know he loves me, but I never want to take that for granted. I want to always live in such a way that he can see my words and wisdom played out. I want to not only teach him, but to also show him how to live.

We owe our thirteen years of happy marriage to the lessons and examples given by our parents. They have passed down a legacy to us, and we hope to pass it down to our children. Both Heidi and I love, respect, and honor our parents. We know we can go to them for advice and comfort. We know that they can be counted on to be understanding and not judgmental. We always look forward to seeing them and both of us count our parents among our closest friends. Someday my children will move out of our home. They will marry and have kids themselves. It is then that Heidi and I will know if we have done our job well. With the help of God and by His grace, Daniel and Kalista will go even further, do even better, and reach even higher than we ever could.

It's like Christmas and birthdays all rolled into one, opening up all this old stuff. Except for the actual 'hard work' part of it... And the chaos...
