Housekeeping Unit : I spent my first night in Yosemite in a housekeeping unit. Three concrete walls, one canvas wall, and a stockade of sorts...... After staying too long at Hetch Hetchy I didn't reach the valley floor until well after dark. I can't tell you how many times I circled the valley before finally pulling in. There are over 250 of these "units," and I think they were all taken. From what I saw and heard that night plus saw the next day, I would describe the whole scene there as very similar to LSU football tailgating without the booze. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun.

Valley Floor : These pictures were shot over three days in Yosemite. A number of the pictures are HDR done with Photomatix Pro (with Local Contrast added with LIghtzone aferwards). As mentioned before, I shot a lot of bracketed exposures (2/3 over and under) with the thought of using the best exposure afterwards. I had no plans for any HDR treatments. Because of the coastal (and closer) forest fires, there was a lot of haze obscuring much detail. (It was only on the day I was leaving that things cleared up somewhat.) Working with the pictures afterwards I found that using Photomatix Pro really helped the clarity. Even though the original pictures weren't optimized for HDR (5 shots would have been better than 3, a bigger f-stop difference would have helped, and a constant aperture for each burst wasn't used), I'm more that satisfied with the results.
